CHATHAM, ONTARIO (October 8, 2021) –On October 7, local business owner Kevin Owen trekked for a cause and ran 100km, shore to shore in Chatham-Kent. He had a goal to try to raise $100,000 for the Children’s Treatment Centre Foundation of Chatham-Kent, all in one day. He surpassed that goal, with over $111,000 raised from this event.

Owen took to the roads at 3AM departing from Mitchell’s Bay and taking a route through Wallaceburg, Dresden, Kent Bridge, Chatham, Blenheim and ending in Erieau.

That meant running in the dark, running through multiple meal times, and spending most of the day on the roads of Chatham-Kent. It was a true test of determination towards meeting the goal of 100km and raising money for the CTC Foundation. Owen’s personal goal was to finish in 15 hours, and he came close with a 16 hour finish, arriving in Erieau at Bayside Brewing to a crowd cheering him to the finish line.

Owen admits raising donations during the pandemic has been challenging and that running for a cause made things easy for everyone involved.

“The money raised today from Kevin’s run will go towards our social work program, our recreational program and music therapy program.,” says Mike Genge, Foundation President. “We are so grateful to Kevin for raising this money for our kids.”

Not all services at the Children’s Treatment Centre are covered by government funding. Programs like Social Work, Therapeutic Recreation Services and Music Therapy are all funded by the CTC Foundation. Proceeds from this event will mean families continue to receive connection, comfort and support by accessing these services.
