An Update from The Children’s Treatment Centre of Chatham-Kent

The Children’s Treatment Centre of Chatham-Kent is excited to be progressing with plans for the new Centre.

The Centre has received $300,000 from the Ministry of Children, Community and Social Services (MCCSS) to update and finalize the size of the new build, confirm layout and to determine the best flow of clients and families throughout the specialized paediatric service space.

A competitive RFP process was held and the contract has been awarded to ROA Studio Inc.  ROA is a local business working in partnership with Resource Planning Group (RPG).  Work has been initiated to complete the planning and the outcome is completion of a Functional Program to guide all future work.

Donna Litwin-Makey, Executive Director of the Centre, stresses the funding is very welcome news and it provides momentum to the goal of a new Centre build on McNaughton Avenue West. The current Centre is not able to house all services required by local children and families.

Client Ambassador Ashley Gialelem notes COVID-19 has brought new space challenges and has further restricted accessibility at the Centre.  “Social isolation is a real concern for individuals with disabilities.  A new Centre with space for groups, therapy and recreation programs will meet a critical need.  Input gained from our clients and families is guiding the planning process and we are all looking forward to our new build with full accessibility and space for all our needs”.
