Three Mobi Chairs Now Available Across Chatham-Kent, Expanding Beach Accessibility for Everyone

CHATHAM-KENT, ON – The Children’s Treatment Centre Foundation of Chatham-Kent is pleased to announce the completion of its three-year Mobi Chair Project, making accessible beach experiences available at Erieau, Rondeau, and now Mitchell’s Bay.

Made possible through funding from the Chatham Kent Community Foundation and South Kent Wind Community Fund, the project has provided three Mobi Chair Floating Beach Wheelchairs that allow individuals with disabilities or limited mobility to safely travel across the sand and enjoy the water.

The final phase of the project at Mitchell’s Bay also included the installation of a secure storage building, funded through the Municipality of Chatham-Kent Councillor Ward Funding Grant Program through Hydro One.

“We are incredibly grateful to the CK Community Foundation and the Municipality of Chatham-Kent for helping make this project possible,” said Mike Genge, President & CEO of the Children’s Treatment Centre Foundation of Chatham-Kent. “These Mobi Chairs help remove barriers so more children, adults, seniors, and families can experience the joy of spending time at the beach.”

The Mobi Chair Project began in 2023 with a chair at Erieau, followed by Rondeau in 2024, and now Mitchell’s Bay in 2025. The initiative was made possible through the support of many community partners, including Five-Eau, the Rondeau Yacht Club, Savard Contracting, Bouma Construction, Dam Home Hardware and Pepples Gravel & Topsoil.

The Mobi Chairs are available for public day use throughout the beach season. Sign-out sheets are located at each participating beach location, making it easy for residents and visitors to borrow the chairs and enjoy Chatham-Kent’s waterfront. Users can sign out a chair at the following locations:

  • Erieau Beach: Sign out at Five-Eau (889 Mariners Road, Ereiau).
  • Rondeau Beach: Sign out at the Rondeau Yacht Club (Call ahead (519) 674-3830).
  • Mitchell’s Bay Beach: Sign out at The Outpost Restaurant/Five Eau (7 Main St., Mitchell’s Bay).
